Description
Everyone gets fed-up or short-tempered from time to time, but why are some people prone to outbursts of violent behaviour? Where does aggression come from and how is it connected to our psychological and emotional behaviour? Why does aggression suddenly flare up, creating havoc all around and how are some people able to manage their aggression, when others seem so trigger-happy and are not?
With new insights, in-depth explanations and discussion from neuroscience and depth psychology, you will examine the evolutionary origins and behavioural manifestations of male and female aggression, gaining a unique opportunity to fully explore this explosive human trait. Beginning in child development, you will learn about the age that aggression manifests, how our psychological and emotional behaviour is linked with hormonal influences, powerful subconscious impulses, and the role of socio-economic factors and cognitive priming in aggressive behaviour. From analytical observations of ‘group mind’ and case studies in forensic psychology, this module provides an excellent overview and analysis of the root cause of aggression, with strategies for management and reduction.
In this focused module, you will;
-
- Understand the Causes of Male and Female Aggression: Understanding of the fundamental factors that contribute to aggression in different genders provides insights into gender-specific aggression patterns, enabling more effective and tailored strategies for managing aggressive behaviour
-
- Explore Childhood Development, Early Influences, and Conditioning: Explore how early life experiences and conditioning shape the development of aggressive tendencies. This exploration identifies early intervention opportunities to prevent aggressive behaviour from escalating, allowing for proactive management from a young age
-
- Examine the Correlation of Hormones, Libido (sex drive), and Psychopathology: Examine the connections between hormonal levels, sexual drive, and mental health issues related to aggression. Enhanced understanding of the biological and psychological factors influencing aggression, leads to more precise and effective therapeutic approaches
-
- Understand Evolutionary Psychology & Animal Brain: Understanding aggression through evolutionary psychology and animal behaviour insights provides a foundational perspective on the evolutionary origins of aggression, informing more effective strategies for managing this behaviour
-
- Advance Knowledge of Predator Behaviour and Precursors That Underpin Outbursts: Analyse how predator-like behaviours and early warning signs can lead to aggressive outbursts. This understanding improves the ability to recognise and address early indicators of aggression, helping to prevent more severe incidents
-
- Explore Biological Theories, the Limbic System, & Brain Anatomy: Understand the biological basis of aggression, including the role of the limbic system, hormones, and brain anatomy. This examination offers a deeper understanding of the brain mechanisms involved in aggression, supporting targeted and effective interventions
-
- Learn About Emotional Coding, Memory, and the Amygdala: Investigate how emotional experiences and memory processes involving the amygdala influence aggression. This provides insights into how past emotional experiences contribute to aggression, aiding in the development of strategies for emotional regulation
-
- Examine Aggression Towards Others and the Self: Learn how aggression can be directed both towards others and oneself. Understanding supports a comprehensive approach to managing aggression, addressing both interpersonal and self-directed aggression
-
- Uncover Unconscious Bipolar Motives & Instinctual Impulses: Explore the role of unconscious bipolar drives and instinctual impulses in aggressive behaviour. Illuminating underlying forces helps identify and address hidden psychological drivers of aggression, facilitating more effective therapeutic approaches
-
- Investigate Frustration-Aggression Models & Triggers of Outbursts: Developing awareness of the relationship between frustration and aggression, including the triggers that lead to outbursts, informs and helps in managing frustration-related aggression, providing tools to handle triggers and reduce outbursts
- Investigate Frustration-Aggression Models & Triggers of Outbursts: Developing awareness of the relationship between frustration and aggression, including the triggers that lead to outbursts, informs and helps in managing frustration-related aggression, providing tools to handle triggers and reduce outbursts
