~ A Christmas of Light and Magic
As we enter the magical time of Christmas, I find myself reflecting on the transitions and opportunities that have shaped the past year. For many, the year has brought unexpected changes and the closing of significant chapters. While these moments can be challenging, they also offer a chance to pause, reflect, and consider what we carry forward – and what we choose to let go. In these moments of introspection, I am reminded of the timeless wisdom and metaphor of having oil for our lamps [Matthew 25:1-13].
In this powerful story, Jesus speaks of ten virgins, five wise and five foolish, waiting for the arrival of the bridegroom. The wise virgins carry extra oil for their lamps, while the foolish ones do not. This image of “oil for our lamps” serves as a beautiful metaphor for staying prepared for both the blessings and challenges ahead. Psychologically, the oil signifies our inner reserves – our capacity for emotional resilience and preparedness, cultivated through self-awareness, reflection, and healthy coping mechanisms. It is a reminder that the strength we rely on in times of uncertainty cannot be borrowed or transferred from others; it must come from within.
In the spiritual sense, our lamps symbolise the visible light of our lives—the testimony of faith, love, and integrity that shines brightly for others to see. This parable reminds us of the importance of personal responsibility: each of us must tend to our own psychological development and spiritual readiness, for the return of Christ will come at an unexpected hour. In metaphysical terms, it is the re-awakening of God within our own consciousness.
This Christmas, as we celebrate the season in our own unique ways, may we all take time to refill our lamps. Just as the wise virgins prepared for Christ’s arrival, we too can prepare for the unknown – not only to expect the unexpected but to manifest the miraculous. May you feel the wonder of Santa within.
All Magical Things,
Christmas Carole
