How can psychologists study a mind they can’t see?

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Although we cannot directly observe mental processes, we can examine the brain using scanners and investigate how the mind works by objectively observing and measuring behaviour. In experiments, we monitor people’s responses to tasks involving reasoning, calculating, recognition, word association and memory. By analysing the results, we gain a clearer picture of how the brain functions and how the mind processes, organises and stores information.
