“The brighter the light, the darker the shadow.”

Why Do People Commit Crime?
Why do some individuals cross the moral, mortal, and psychological Rubicon, while others never could? Are certain people born with innate psychopathologies, or are they shaped by fractured environments and social chaos? If society teaches us not to harm, why do some break the most fundamental human rule? This is the central question of forensic psychology. In these classes, we examine criminal behaviour through psychological theory, behavioural science, and case-based analysis to understand not only what people do – but uniquely, why they do it.
Inside the Criminal Mind
The absence of a weapon does not mean a crime has not been committed. Sometimes cases are solved not by what is present, but by what is missing. Criminal profiling allows us to observe from a distance – often the clearest vantage point. Even without the perpetrator before us, we can step into their mind. Through disciplined reasoning, their involvement becomes legible.
The Fusion of Science and Psychology
Forensic Psychology unites two worlds: forensics – from forum, the court of truth – and psychology, the study of the mind. Criminology focuses on the crime itself. Crime scene analysis examines physical evidence through science and technology. But even with the most sophisticated tools, a purely scientific lens can overlook what hides in plain sight: the mind behind the act.
An Extraordinary Learning Experience
Through a top-down analytical perspective, these classes uniquely integrate depth psychology, forensic profiling, criminology, psychoanalysis, psychiatry, and neuroscience. Created and taught by Carole Sawo, an experienced lecturer and highly experienced analyst with accurate perception, each class is designed to immerse students in forensic psychology through real cases and structured psychological interpretation. Students learn to analyse criminal behaviour, interpret crime scenes, and examine both historical and contemporary cases through psychological frameworks that explain not only what happens in the mind – but why.

New On-Demand Class: “Mother Love”
“Mother Love” is a central lecture now available to download instantly from The Study. It provides a core foundation for understanding the origins of criminal behaviour through attachment theory, developmental psychology, and forensic analysis of real cases, exploring how early relationships with a primary caregiver shape psychological structure and influence later patterns of behaviour.
